Richard McGovern

Long-time South Bend resident, Dick McGovern, age 81, died at his home on January 21, 2015. Dick was born to Frank and Gladys McGovern in Burlington, Washington on August 26, 1933. He was raised in Concrete, Washington, graduating from high school in 1951. Dick spent 4 years in the Air Force, serving mainly in Europe. He graduated from Western Washington University and started teaching and coaching at South Bend High School in the Fall of 1958. After 33 years, “Coach†McGovern retired in 1991. Dick is survived by his three children, Kathy Mark (Sonny), Mike McGovern (Gail), and Kelley McCutchen (Mike), five grandchildren, Casey (Dawn) and Kelly Spoor, Tanner McGovern, Josh and Carley McCutchen, and one great granddaughter, Kenlee Spoor. He was preceded in death by his wife, Lila, in 2004. By his choice there will be no funeral service. He will be interred at Forest Park Cemetery in Concrete, Washington.
