February 3, 1933 — December 17, 2024

A lifelong resident of Raymond, WA, Mildred F. Nevitt (Rutherford) passed away peacefully on Tuesday, December 17, 2024, in Olympia, WA. She was born on February 3, 1933, in Raymond to J. Earl and Frances (Davidson) Rutherford.

On July 15, 1948, Mildred married Alan V. Nevitt in Coronado, CA, beginning a partnership that spanned decades. She pursued a career in education, specializing in music, and taught at Valley, Raymond, and North River schools. Fondly nicknamed “Mean Mrs. Nevitt” by her students, Mildred earned their respect and admiration through her dedication and passion for teaching.

In addition to her work as an educator, Mildred was the church musician for Raymond Methodist Church and later Willapa Methodist Church. She sang in the Sweet Adelines and Raymond Community choirs and shared her musical talent by playing at numerous weddings and funerals, bringing comfort and joy to her community through her gift.

Mildred treasured her family, enjoyed traveling in the RV with her husband Al and riding motorcycles, loved spending time at the family cabin, was an avid quilter and crafter who delighted in teaching her grandchildren to bake. She leaves behind a legacy of love, creativity, and cherished memories.

Preceding her in death are her beloved husband, parents, brother Bill, sons-in-law Mitchell and Dennis, and great-grandson Benjamin. She is survived by her children: Rosslynn (Michael) Glazier, Les (Jan) Nevitt, Marilynn Curl, Doug (Carolyn) Nevitt, Melanie (Ric) Zassenhaus, and Dawn (Jayson) King. Mildred’s legacy also includes 11 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren, and 2 great-great-grandchildren who carry forward her love and spirit.

The family will hold a private memorial service at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations in Mildred’s memory can be made to Assured Hospice in Olympia.
