After Enjoying 97 years, LaRue McGuire passed away quietly on October 9, 2014 while encircled by the love of family. LaRue was born on October 26, 1916 at Shawnigan Lake, British Columbia. She grew up in the scattered lumber camps and towns of Lewis County. In 1934, she graduated from Mossyrock High School. She married Harvey McGuire in 1936. LaRue and Harvey lived and worked in Raymond from 1939 until Harvey’s passing in 2001. LaRue continued with her active life in Raymond until 2008 when she moved to Vancouver Washington to be close to her daughters, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. LaRue will be remembered for her quiet and giving ways. For those close to her, she will be remembered always as a great cook and gracious hostess. LaRue was a worker, and when asked recently about the secret of a long life, she replied, “Just keep working, and don’t complain.†From 1961 until 1978, LaRue worked as a cook at Raymond High School. Students who worked in the cafeteria with her will remember both her caring ways and strong guidance. She expected the best from them, and got it. LaRue was a member of Raymond United Church. She was active as a volunteer in school reading programs, the ministerial association thrift store, and the Raymond Visitors Center. She is survived by her sister Bernice Baker; daughters Nadine Boren and Carol Hall; and son Duane McGuire. She has six grandchildren, nine great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.
