(July 19, 1934 – November 24, 2025) Edwin C Jouper Sr.
Edwin “Ed” Carl Jouper Sr. went to be with his Savior on November 24, 2025, at the age of 91, surrounded by his
family.
Ed was born in Raymond, WA on July 19, 1934 to Carl and Mary Louise (Byrd) Jouper. He grew up in Raymond,
graduating with the class of ’53. He played basketball, baseball, was a four-year letterman in football on top of
being an Eagle Scout. In 1952, he met Gloria (Bailey) Jouper, and they were married in 1953. They celebrated 72
years of marriage on June 11, 2025.
Ed wore many hats during his life. He joined the Air Force and served from January 1954 to October 1957, when he
was honorably discharged. He then worked in a shingle mill until a back injury forced a change. After a year at
Bates Vocational School, he worked for Boeing for two years. Following a layoff, he moved back to South Bend and
took a job as a box boy at Stewart’s Food Basket, working his way up to manager in just 8 years. Ed stayed in the
grocery business for years, until another back injury ended that career. He then took a job for The Employment
Security Department, first as an interviewer, then as a counselor, retiring in 1986.
Ed was also very active in his community, He coached little league and softball, his time coaching his daughter
Candy being his favorite. He was a member of the South Bend School Board for 8 years, as well as an active
member of the First Baptist Church of South Bend, spending years as a deacon. He was active in the Boy Scouts
from his youth and continued to become a Boy Scout Leader for several years.
Ed enjoyed everything outdoors. When he was young, he enjoyed fishing and hunting and still enjoyed driving on
the logging roads with Gloria to enjoy nature. He was an avid birder and amateur weather man, keeping detailed
records of the precipitation and temperature of Eklund Park. He enjoyed sports of all kinds but particularly the
Seattle Mariners, Seahawks and Washington Huskies as well as the local high school sports teams.
Ed’s wife of 72 years and his one true love, Gloria, joined him in Heaven on November 27, 2025. He had 4 sons,
Edwin Jr of Shelton, Jeffrey (Patti) of Outlook, Richard of South Bend and Terry of Chehalis; 4 daughters Cindy of
Olympia, Wendy (Burt) Stigall of Shelton, Candace (Roger) Jaime of Warrenton, OR and Lisa (Eloy) Sanchez of South
Bend. He also had 6 grandsons, Nathan Jouper, Richard Stigall, Mark Stigall, Jeffrey Nissell, Derek Johnson, Kyle
Johnson, 5 granddaughters Marisa Ank, Chelsea Hartman, Jani Jouper, Jennifer Walker and Rachel Jouper
.Numerous great-grandchildren, step grandchildren and a great-great grandchild on the way. He also had several
special friends, the Bisbee family, the Leon and Zeferino families, Galen and Mary Nell Ellingsen.
Ed was preceded in death his parents Carl and Mary Louise Jouper and brothers Leonard and Alvin May.
A Celebration of Life will be held for Ed and Gloria on December 27, 2025 at the South Bend Chamber of
Commerce beginning at 1 p.m. All are welcome. In lieu of flowers, Ed asked that donations be made to Willapa
Harbor Helping Hands.
