Long time Willapa Valley resident, Dorothy M. Kain passed away the evening of December 13, 2023 in Shelton WA.

Dorothy was born on February 25, 1927 in Humptulips, WA. She was the daughter of Norris Earl and Olive Mae Turner. She was known as “Dot” as a child. She attended schools in Humptulips, Lake Quinault and graduated from high school in Shelton, WA. She also attended Grays Harbor Business College and the University of Oregon.

On March 22, 1957, she married Robert (Bob) Kain, and moved to the home that Bob built on Andrew St. overlooking the Willapa Valley. Together they had a family of four children. Bob’s two children, Robert II (12) and Anita Jean (9) and Dorothy’s two daughters, Malyn (3) and Thasa (2).

Dorothy’s early employment was with Wolff’s Apparel and as a service representative with Pacific Northwest Bell, both in Aberdeen. After moving to Willapa Valley, she had a Day-Care in their home and she also sold Studio Girl Cosmetics. Years later she worked for the Willapa Valley School District as the secretary to the Superintendent for 24 years, retiring in 1989.

For many years, she participated in the H.O.S.T. program at the Willapa Elementary School as well as being a life member of the Willapa Valley Booster Club. She and Bob had years of adventures and fun flying in his Cessna 180.

Dorothy enjoyed her yard full of flowers and sending countless birthday and every occasion, cards! And anyone who knew her, knew she loved her Hummels! But most of all, beside her beloved Bob, she loved her Grandchildren, Mitch and Kristine Kain, Michael and Rachel England, and Joseph Sokmen.
